Collaborative documentary filmed over a period of three days in 2018, staying, speaking, eating and taking part in the daily routines and rituals of the small shrine located behind the main Aadeswor Mahadev temple. The shrine of Kailash located 3.3 kms from Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) and was founded by Shree Bijay Malla in 2015, from repeated visions since early childhood. "Kailash in Kathmandu" is a place of pilgrimage evoking the majestic mountain of Kailash within the outter surroundings of Kathmandu in Nepal. Mount Kailash, in Tibet, has always held a special role as the centre of worship for many religions. Traditionally pilgrims have circled Kailash three times: a massive 156 km trek through difficult terrain. Kailash in KTM brings the holy mountain closer to home, and makes the pilgrimage of three circumambulations possible in a mere 90 Metres. Next to Aadeswor Mahadev temple, Kailash in KTM allows you to see, with your own open eyes the Gods which inhabit the sacred mountain. Pilgrims from around the world have already started to flock to KailashKTM, recognising the location as the holy mountain it is. Close to Ichangu, you will not need to walk more than the 93 steps up to the Aadeswor Mahadev temple, following the track behind the pilgrims graves to find KailashKTM. It is not in any guide books but there you will find an incredible sight of hand painted rock, worked on by Shree Bijay Malla and his team of dedicated disciples. A short pilgrimage from the White Monastery in Nagarjun, west Kathmandu, Kailashktm was originally excavated by one person, Shree Malla, working day and night to uncover the mountain and allow devotees to circulate around: one for happiness, twice for success in work and family, and three times to remove all obstacles for all beings, including those yet to come.
kailashktm is home to Mahadev, Shiva, Parvati and all gods. Ganesh, has won the prize to always be worshipped first, due to winning a competition set by Shiva to see who was the fastest to return to Kailash after circling the universe three times. Ganesh the elephant God has the vehicle of the rat, whilst his brother Kartakya kumar was riding the faster peacock. Kartakya kumar set off at a great pace and managed to circle the whole known universe 3 times. However, riding on his slow rat Ganesh knew that the centre of the universe was the home and slowly made his way around the home of Shiva and Parvati, thus winning the prize.
Shown above is an old photo of KailashKTM in the early stages of excavation from the surrounding hill. In the rock you can see with your own eyes the shape of Ganesh, Kumar and the Peacock, Shiva, Parvati and lord Shesha naag (Vishnu).
Invisible to the eye are 330,000,000 gods and godesses said to inhabit the rock, this you will have to look for yourself to find. What you will find are daily Puja to the infinite gods performed according to the sacred traditions using drum and Shankha (conch shell).
Special occassions and rituals are celebrated according to the season and the temple of Kailash in KTM is always active with devotional activities.
